For example, what is the difference between outcomes, standards and competencies? Is there a reference I can cite that is considered authoritative on this point? For that matter, what is the role of a "subject" or "discipline" in American education? What is the relationship between ELA/Literacy in the Common Core and that definition? Can I cite a widely recognized authority in answering that?

Here's another example. I would argue that several of the Common Core reading standards are more properly writing standards, and vice versa. I do not consider that a small or theoretical issue in actually implementing standards-based assessment. Is there anything I can cite to prove my point, or that someone else can cite to disprove it?Tom Hoffmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08577165613934129833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7719550.post-75177748546216084262016-03-24T15:27:15.084-04:002016-03-24T15:27:15.084-04:00Uh, you said there isn't anything about standa...Uh, you said there isn't anything about standards in K12. For me, it was a horrible memory. Endless cards, endless waiting in line at the big box of cards, never finishing the endless succession of lessons, colors, boxes, cards.

It was so much easier simply to read a book, which I still love to do. The forced, mechanized, hopelessly complex stratification of color coded cards did nothing to help, but only to hinder, my love of learning. And the endless, pointless, boring method of waiting in line for my turn to pick yet another colored card gave me my first real taste of bitterness in education.

I was very happy that this nonsense was discarded by the time I was in 4th grade. I was happy to think that the SRA business went out of business a long time ago. I shudder to think that it is still around. I would stay away from it completely.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7719550.post-44466816927202373692015-12-06T18:44:32.348-05:002015-12-06T18:44:32.348-05:00inter-elite
