Annoying

GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, "Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God." Are we fighting a holy war?

PALIN: You know, I don't know if that was my exact quote.

GIBSON: Exact words.

It is annoying when you're sufficiently obsessed by this whole mess to recall as soon as you hear this that she actually said "Pray that our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God," which means an entirely different thing. It would be nice if the press could substantively question her without completely fucking it up.

They didn't botch it. That's what she said. Perhaps she said what you've quoted as well but maybe that's from another speech or interview?

Hmm, it's the same speech. Here is the full quote...

"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right... also for this country that our leaders...our national leaders are sending [US troops] out on a task that is from God."

Here it is interesting to listen to the tone because the context of the words could be interpreted as Palin simply asking others to pray, but her tone clearly shifts to a tone of fact once she begins to refer to "our national leaders" and the "task that is from God".
